A Note from the Director

Hello Friends of Ventuar High School Theater Department!   You are about to embark on a musical Zoom journey!  

Quest for Quinonium:  A Space Oddity, was written by a select group of Ventura High School students who worked outside of class to create the concept, script and lyrics for our musical.  Their dedication to theater arts and to the VHS Theater Department is quite impressive, and it has been such a joy to work on this project with them.  In addition to writing the script, those students also helped create the music; from musical style, to melodies, to lyrics, they continued to impress me throughout the entire process.

We are very fortunate to have had my talented son, Gage Burgi (VHS class of 2012) compose the music for our production.  Working with the students to showcase their vision, Gage composed the music for Quest for Quinonium.  I know you will enjoy the original composition, and imagine you'll be humming the songs long after your feet stop tapping!  In addition, he mixed the opening and closing songs, and created and edited the opening video.  

Producing a musical is always a huge job, and I am fortunate to have the support of many talented artists.  Special thanks to Heidi House for sharing her "Heidi Magic" with our singers, to Kenny Hobbs for his sound expertise, to Angie Flum and Sophia Campbell, my wonderful production managers who keep me on the straight and narrow, to Elektra Cohen and her digital photography students for their awesome work which is featured during the opening song, and to my fiance Jeff Sill, who always has my back.  

Quest for Quinonium is set in the future.  Many of the technical concepts were generated by my stagecraft students who, even though they have spent most of the year distance learning only, have embraced the creative process of telling a story through theatrics.

On behalf of the cast, crew, and all those involved in the production of this VHS first ever Zoom musical, we hope you enjoy the show.  Thank you for streaming and Zooming with us as we take you into the future, and on our Quest for Quinonium!
